New collaboration at the beginning of this new year, please welcome the new leather NATO strap...struck by lightning. Lightning (“Blitz” in German) is the symbol of the eponymous custom motorcycle workshop of Hugo & Fred. Remember them? Our friends I wrote about a couple of days ago with the very cool stories and very cool motorcycles. Here’s a little refresher…
Das Blitz & Les Rhabilleurs
Blitz Motorcycles, the Parisian custom motorcycle workshop founded by Fred Jourden and Hugo Jezegabel in 2010. Their love for vintage two-wheelers, their style and their own special way of revamping motorcycles quickly got them noticed. Once relatively underground, they now share the very small international circle with big players such as Australian Deus Ex Machina and Spanish Cafe Racer Dreams.
Being the great lovers of fine things that we are, including classic cars and two-wheelers, it’s not surprising that we’ve been following them for more than 5 years now, that is to say, almost from their official beginnings. Since then, we’ve gotten to know and appreciate each other’s respective worlds.
The encounter paved the way for collaborations on numerous inspirational videos brilliantly combining watchmaking and custom motorcycles. Incredible moments of sharing and enjoyment.
The Blitz NATO strap
Never without their timepieces, Fred and Hugo are great admirers of watches as well. This is how the “Blitz” NATO strap was born, naturally.
Technically speaking, it’s a reinterpretation of our black “Suportlo” leather NATO strap. An extremely soft and resistant leather that develops a beautiful patina over time, adventure after adventure. Unlike the classic version, the stitching holding down the keepers as well as the steel buckle are black for a style that exudes absolute simplicity, very much like the black paint used by the workshop to sign their engine blocks.
Marked on the back of the strap, unseen when worn, is the lightning bolt, symbol of Blitz Motorcycles workshop. Simple, no fuss, discreet.
The Blitz Patch
For lovers of motorcycles and of this Parisian workshop, the strap comes with a Blitz Motorcycles patch. It’s design has been inspired by another patch created for the 1st Cavalry Division, combined arms division and one of the most decorated combat divisions of the United States Army. You may remember them from the Francis Ford Coppola film Apocalypse Now.
Given the fact that the 1st Cavalry Division is a so-called “mobile” division, the parallel between its mobility, its freedom spirit and the world of custom motorcycles is clear.
