Baselworld 2013 – Swatch Sistem 51
Swatch announces big news on the sidelines of Baselworld 2013! An automatic mechanical watch at low prices and disconcertingly simple, which will become a new benchmark in the world of “Second Watches”. Here is our first information related to the project Swatch Sistem 51.
More complicated / higher price / sophistication seems to be the name of the game in the watchmaking industry. This is true, but not for Swatch. Quite the contrary.
Swatch is bringing today an innovation that comes from the the mass distribution to the mass market : Swatch system 51.The result of several years of R&D to display – as its name suggests – not more than 51 components. A record of simplicity.
We stealthily discovered 3 different models of these Swatch automatic watches from this “Sistem 51″ (r)evolutionfor which we could summarize the most important information in a few figures:
- 100% Swiss Made
- 90 hours of autonomy
- 51 parts
- 1 pivoting center and screw
- 6 visible rubys
- 19 total amount of rubys in the movement
- 17 total of patents that covers all the inventions for this watch
- 5 modules that compose the watch
The release of these models is planned for October 2013 at a price level between 100 and 200 Swiss Francs… To be continued!
Meanwhile, here’s the official image of one of three models:
The SISTEM51 movement is entirely made of ARCAP, an alloy combining copper, nickel and zinc, which has excellent anti-magnetic qualities. In addition, all components of the movement are contained in the sealed casing and therefore remain protected from moisture, dust… This “inner peace” movement ensures serenity and longevity and lasting performance.
